The Hickory Horse Show was a large event in Hickory in the 50s and 60s. It began in 1950. It was held at the David H. (Chris) Williams Show Ring for the benefit of the Mt. Pleasant Twp. Volunteer Fire Company.  Classes included Arabian, English, gaited and western. It was also a Palomino Show. Chris Williams was general chairman for the show. The fire department had up to 140 volunteers to help with the shows. The Ladies Auxiliary operated a large refreshment stand. Bleachers were borrowed from Burgettstown High School. In 1951 the show attracted over 5,000 spectators. Horse attendance was upward to 200. Some of the shows were accredited by the Inter-State Horse Show Association, 4-H, Pennsylvania Girls Barrel Racing Association and the American Quarter Horse Association. Box seats were offered for a small fee. Pony rides were available for the children.
